Scratch Film Junkies
The initial thought when viewing the film by Scratch Film Junkies is an overwhelming sense of confusion. The music is the first key to grabbing the audience's attention with the loud, mismatched clangs and thuds that slowly form the beat. However, it appears that the filmmakers are trying to ease in to the hand painting and scratchings by taking footage of a man and manipulating only his surroundings. As the music picks up in speed and volume, the image shifts to strictly moving scratches and adding color. I actually enjoyed seeing the thin lines slowly dance back and forth. However, I began to dislike the film when the image was dominated with the random hand paintings in red. I don't know if it was the color or the discontinuity between frames, but it didn't sit right with me. It seems like each member of the Junkies was given a part of the film to make and then put it together; so it didn't flow very well.
